What customers say
I ordered the Hamilton Bed a few months ago and I can say it's the loveliest bed I've owned. Sturdy, well made and so beautiful, it was worth the wait! I love the fact that I could choose the height setting and the antique styling of this bed is true to era, perfect for Vintage loving me! This will be my bed for life!
We are really pleased with our Ashley Super King bed (black) ... The quality of the bed & mattress seems high especially for the price. Service was great throughout the process and was delivered within 1 week!! ... Easy to assemble but needed two of us! We would definitely use The Original Bed Company again in the future.
One of my better decisions was to buy quality with authentic brass fittings and a solid metal frame, worth the extra money ... The packaging and delivery were excellent ... I can highly recommend the company and its beds.
I purchased my bed from OBC having read up on how metal beds can vary dramatically in quality - I appreciated that a bed frame constructed from multiple parts was unlikely to last very long. I also wanted to store items under the bed so I didn't want support legs getting in the way. My OBC bed frame is exactly as they promised; strong, simple to construct (with no joints in the side lengths and no supporting legs) and most importantly, lovely to look at! I am absolutely thrilled!
What makes our Iron beds & Metal bed frames special?
Iron beds are mostly valued for their durability, stylish elegance, cost effective features and versatility. Their everlasting design means you can pass one down from generation to generation.
Cast and wrought iron bed frames were introduced at the end of the 19th century, in the Victorian age. Vintage iron bed frames were handmade from pouring the iron and polishing detailed castings to the last finishing touches.
The Original Bed Company has been working with these traditional techniques for the last 20 years. Till today we produce beautifully handcrafted metal bed frames. Each of our beds is hand cast with attention to every little detail.
We are one of the very few cast iron bed companies that still use traditional methods to make iron beds, same as those used in making antique wrought iron beds.
What bedroom styles are metal beds suitable for?
Our iron beds are suitable for many bedroom styles. They can be made to feel at home in contemporary, cottage, vintage, shabby chic, grandmillennial and many other bedrooms. Our range of metal bed frames designs makes it possible for you to create your own bedroom style.
Our metal beds are also perfect for many bedroom colour themes, especially if colour matched to your bedroom. Whether a bold contrasting colour theme or muted pastel hues, our iron beds have been used in bedrooms in many hues and themes like white, black, grey, pink, green, blue or yellow. Example: Black iron bed frames can provide necessary contrast to lighter colour themes.
What are your Iron bed sizes?
Most of our metal bed frames are available in single beds (36" x 75"), full beds (54" x 75") and queen sized bed frames (60" x 78") sizes. Some beds are available in less common sizes such as small single (30" x 75"), small double (48" x 75") and 72" x 78". We are also able to customise some of our beds to the twin (38" x 75"), twin XL (38" x 80"), king (76" x 80") and california king (72" x 84") bed sizes.
Some of our bed frames are adapted for European sizes as well. These sizes include 90cm x 200cm, 140cm x 190cm, 140cm x 200cm, 160cm x 200cm. We can customise the size of your bed in certain models
Some US sizes have equivalent sizes in the UK. For more information on a bed for a US size of mattress, please email us (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Iron and brass beds finish
Our iron bed frames are painted in a durable powder coated finish that is designed to withstand the daily rigours of life. Some designs also mix the painted iron with brass finials. The contrast between the metals lifts the overall look of the bed.
All our brass is hand casted which is then antiqued and then lacquered with a durable protective coating. These brass parts can be usually replaced for either a chromed finish or a painted finish as well.
What colors are iron beds available in?
Iron bed frames are available in traditional colors such as black, white, ivory, silver or pewter. They can also be painted in bespoke colours such as lighter baby blues, powder pinks, aquamarine greens or dark metal bed frames such as navy blues or shades of black. Black metal beds, ivory metal bed frames and white wrought iron beds are the most popular.
Low iron bed frames
In today's world, where space is at a premium, our range of low metal beds allow a better use of space in smaller rooms. These beds particularly have lower footends which people prefer. While low bed frames are growing in popularity, our higher footend iron bedsteads are still very popular. The higher end iron bed frames are particularly suited to more traditional settings like a cottage or a farmhouse decor.
Iron four poster beds
The majesty of a metal four poster bed is irresistible to some. Our iron four poster beds are contemporary reimaginations of traditional designs, like antique wrought iron four poster beds. They offer the grandeur of a cast iron poster bed without the bulk making them suitable for many bedrooms, from small to large. See our collection of iron four poster beds if you're interested.
What are your cast iron beds storage options?
Metal frame beds make it easier to use the space under the bed as storage. Using wicker baskets or rolling drawers is a clean and convenient storage option. The Original Bed Co. also has an underbed drawer storage option, which is available to fit on all our metal bed range.
This metal bed with storage option is designed for winter clothes, bed linen, pillows and other soft furnishings. The storage drawers run on rollers and are raised off the ground which makes it easier to clean underneath our wrought iron beds.
Are metal beds durable?
Metal beds are more portable than other types of bed frames. For people who tend to move often strong metal bed frames survive moves better than wooden or upholstered beds. Metal which has been painted with our durable finish is able to withstand more punishment than wood and won’t rip like upholstery. Dismantling and assembling our metal bed will, also, not compromise their life in any way.
How do I take care of my metal bed frames?
Maintenance of a cast iron bed is relatively easy, it should be kept clean and as dry as possible. A dry cloth can be used to wipe down the frame every so often to keep it dust free. A wrought iron bed frame will not stain easily and any spills can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth followed by a dry cloth. Tightening the bolts yearly also makes sure it never squeaks.
Iron bed slatted frame
Our metal framed beds come with a slatted frame which are suitable for use with most types of mattresses. We usually only quote water beds as an exception. If your mattress has some special requirements as prescribed by the manufacturer you may get in touch with us and we will be able to guide you on the suitability of your mattress. You may also check out our range of mattresses which are designed for use with our products including our metal bed frames.

We do sell only the headboard of all our cast iron beds online and in shop. Please get in touch with us for prices and how to purchase a headboard from us. Along with the headboard you also get an attachment kit so that the headboard can be attached to a divan frame.
