Iron Beds Collection from The Original Bedstead Company.
For those in search of a splash of understated exotica, a Mediterranean inspired decorative bedroom theme, might be just the thing.
With two distinct approaches it is a style that offers great versatility and scope for the imagination.
Tuscan styling majors on a rustic note featuring natural materials with distressed or weathered finishes, complemented with a moody colour scheme, whilst for a cooler, more minimalist effect, Mediterranean Beach style features whites and bold blues as the central theme with terracotta detailing for an authentic feel.
Either Mediterranean theme would feature fixtures and furnishings with artisan details, rough textures and clear surfaces, all brought together by old world architectural elements to create a grand bedroom theme.
White stucco walls and painted tile floors evoke a coastal home and for added old world effect consider wrought iron detailing on window screens, terrace balconies and furniture. A terracotta tile floor ensures an earthy mediterranean look whilst a feeling of volume can be created with arches, vaulted ceilings, pillars around door frames, and large picture windows.
For a homelier look, distressed ceiling beams and built in shelves and niches would be sure to fit the bill and for a truly Tuscan feel, opt for a palette of rust, cinnamon, gold, bronze, olive and rich red hues whilst beach themes thrive on hues of white, blues and natural earthy colours with accents of greens and orange as accent colours, to strike the perfect balance.
As is the case with most bedroom themes, a strong focal point will set the tone, so careful bedstead selection is all-important. In our beach themed room a simple wooden platform bed in medium or dark wood might ensure casual sophistication, decorated with a mosquito net or lightweight sheer canopy for a touch of romance.
For a more gregarious Tuscan style, more ornate pieces would work well, such as an engraved wooden headboard or traditional Iron Bed with a rich patina and detailed metal castings.
A Castleton Iron bed in tan and glossy ivory patina might be just perfect in this respect, to lend the bedroom a touch of enticing charm, perhaps complemented with some crisp white linens and embroidered bedthrows for a really cosy feel.
Finish off the furniture collection with an old wooden bench and burgundy cushions for an ideal widow seat or end of bed accessory, whilst solid darkwood chairs, chests or drawers, nightstands and tables will fit the mood. Mediterranean themes cry out for rustic detailing, so any furniture that features hammered tin panels, chunky oxidised iron hardware, handpainted trim or tile inserts, will be equally at home.
All that’s required now is a liberal dose of imagination for accessorizing and a cooling sea breeze…
